Tirpitz Re-visited Overall size 28" x 20" Image size 24" x 14" Depicts Sqn. Ldr. Frank Dodd and P/O Eric Hill flying low under unexpected heavy fire in a ten-and-a-half-hour sortie to Tromso Fjord on 22nd March 1945, to obtain confirmation of the final demise of the pride of the German navy - the battleship Tirpitz. Philip says, "Meeting Eric to discuss my preliminary drawings was invaluable. Eric's contribution in terms of detail was a great help and ensured my painting reflects as accurately as humanly possible, just how it was on this eventful day. Historian, Jim Shortland, also provided me with an enormous amount of reference material - this combined with Eric's and my own research has resulted in a painting of truly historic importance."
